Living on Prince Edward Island I have a sense of security when it comes to natural disasters. Most don't think of Twisters or Earthquakes every coming close to us to be scared of it. This past weekend we were hit by Hurricane Juan (down graded to a Tropical Storm) and the damage it left behind has been incredible.

Thanks for posting this Steven. My folks tried to explain the damage to me but the visuals really help to show what was going on.

I am originally from the Maritimes but now live in Ottawa...it absolutely breaks my heart to see all the damage left behind by this storm. Thanks for posting the pictures. My heart goes out to all of you.

I'm also a Maritimer living in Ottawa. Is the damage outside the city as bad as in town? Is anyone from the Rice Point/Canoe Cove area? I'm wondering how hard the Camp Segunakadeck got hit, on Rice Point.

Hiya,
Thanx for posting these pictures. I am originally from Halifax but now live in England and was interested to see what happened to my city. The one that hit America the week before was all over the news, but it seems that Canada is not important to the rest of the world except those of us who love it and live(d) there. It is very sad to see the devastation. Thanx again for posting the pics.

The pictures are great how did the luneneburg area make out I live in B.C. and I have relatives in Nova Scotia my Neice just got her power back after 3.5 days she was happy to have it back , but have not heard anything about the South Shore
Mike Hannam - October 3, 2003 12:18 pm
Lunenburg made out pretty good. We had a lot of wind and rain but not a lot of damage. Some lost power for up to 7 hours. Blue rocks and areas around the coast had a lot of debris on them due to the storm surge, they used snow plows to clear the roads. All in all we were pretty lucky in Lunenburg.

Hi, I'm originally from Dartmouth, now living in Ont. Haven't seen any pictures from there yet, anyone taken any?

Hey there... The Dartmouth Damage was just as bad if not worse then Halifax... The roof of the apartment where I lived (249-251 Windmill Rd) collapsed, so for the past week i've been without a home. I just found a new apartment in Halifax with my girlfriend. Thank god for insurance or i'd be screwed. It was like something out of a movie. Water was flowing down the halls and stair wells like brooks, people were screaming, alarms were going off, it was dark, windy, and police and fire officials everywhere, and 2 girls had been trapped under the rubble. We were all huddled in the lobby at the back door for awhile before I got in my car with my girlfriend and some friends and headed for my parents house. We weren't allowed in my apartment for a day, but when we finally were allowed back in. I was surprised that minimal damage was cause to my apartment. However everyone in that side of the building were still all required to move out immediately. But now things are slowly getting back on track.

Does anyone know of a site showing the true path what Juan took over Nova Scotia, Thanks Darrell
Martin Haynes - October 8, 2003 10:28 pm
A good selection of pictures http://www.ns.ec.gc.ca/weather/hurricane/juan/photos_e.html

The following site contains information on Hurricane Juan and apparently will be updated with a track that it took over NS. The storm summary link indicates it came ashore a little south west of Halifax and tracked due north over the province before crossing the Northumberland Strait to PEI. I just drove from Halifax to Moncton and there was evident damage all along the highway through to Truro, as far as the Wentworth area.

Sorry - the web site is http://www.atl.ec.gc.ca/weather/hurricane/index_e.html

Nice pictures. Wish I had the chance to look around the city after the storm - but I was too busy with the 70' maple that hit the front of my house. The tree is gone but the house is still being fixed Oct 29

I am looking for a copy of the Hurricane Juan Video that had Dido's white flag playing in the background?
TY!
Patrick Helliwell - August 6, 2004 12:56 am
I made the video for Hurricane Juan, which (from what I have heard) is MUCH more popular than the Dido? version I made a small 4 minute clip show with Travis: Sing, a very appropriate song I think. Please E-mail me if you would like a copy e-mailed to you, or I am selling CD-ROMS's of my video at $10.00 each, I am slowly getting people to actully BUY the CD so I can STILL pay for some of my lawn damages from the Juan....did you know that a 110 year old maple tree can take A LOT of grass with it...cuz I didn't. So please E-mail me with a request for the video...PLEASE BUY IT :) thank you and good night!
